A Review for Zocdoc.com

Just scheduled an appointment with a doctor through Zocdoc.com and had a great experience with their service. My first try was canceled and my second try was rescheduled by the doctor office. Zocdoc staff both promptly called and emailed me to make sure that I had been contacted by the doctor office before they rescheduled me and everything worked well for me. ::: Ao Nang beach, Krabi, Thailand: A Heaven on Earth ::: 2013 Dubai - Thailand Trip (Part 4)

First thing we did when we arrived in Thailand was heading to Krabi province. Our destination was Ao Nang beach, one of the most beautiful beach in Thailand. Our hi-light trip started at Don Muang Airport, Bangkok. Don Muang Airport is one of two international airports of Thailand. Another airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, is the newer one. We flew to Krabi via Air Asia (www.airasia.com), a Malaysian low-cost airline. Our flight departed at 6.40 am... pretty early but we needed to spend as much as time at beaches. Plus, you can avoid traffic by traveling very early in the morning. (Round trip airfare was about $125 per person / Check-in luggage fee was 900 Thai Baht in 2013)

We arrived in Krabi at 8 a.m. at Krabi International Airport. Nice weather... great start of the day :)

Krabi has several beaches. You can take buses, van or taxi to your destination. We picked a bus to Ao Nang Beach. Prices are 90 - 150 Thai Baht per person. Buses leave the airport 5 times in a day. The buses park in the parking lot of the airport.

The bus took us about 50 minutes to Ao Nang beach, one of the most popular beach in Krabi. We stayed at the L Resort (www.thelresort.com). The room price was a little high but we were impressed by the place and their friendly services.

Next thing we had to do after check-in at the resort was... to fill up our bellies. :P We had our late breakfast at a restaurant close by. One recommendation is to have Thai food because it is cheaper and more authentic. My boyfriend had American breakfast it cost more than my seafood fried rice which was much more delicious for me LOL. After breakfast, we walked around and found a fruit street vendor. We almost scream because they had what we love, mangosteen and lambutan!! Even though we can find these fruits in US but nothing can beat the fresh one from its original place!

After that, we just observed the area and enjoy the beach to get rid of tiredness from the long flights. Tomorrow  plan was to visit Phi Phi islands.

::: Dubai, Burj Khalifa ::: 2013 Dubai - Thailand Trip (Part 3)

Burj Khalifa or Burj Dubai is the tallest tower in the world (as in 2013). The building is 829.8 meters or 2,722 feet. The construction began in 2004 and finished in 2009. Mohamed Ali Alabbar, chairman of the project's developer estimated the total cost of the project to be about 1.5 billion USD. (credit Wikipedia) :P

It's always a good idea to make a reservation online prior your trip. I'm not sure about other time of the week, but when I was there in January, there were so many people and ticket ran out. We brought tickets online from http://www.burjkhalifa.ae/ . A ticket costs 125 EAD or about 34 USD. The average visit time is 60 minutes. We book tickets for 5 pm so we could get to the top around 5.30 pm which was sun set time that day.

After we got in, we still had to wait in another long line. At the entrance, there are displays showing the building's structure and facts.

On the window panel, there are stickers showing other tall buildings in the world  such as Shanghai World Financial Centre, Central Plaza and Petronas Tower. We can see that this is a never-ending competition. One day, your building could be the tallest one, some day you could be an ex champion.

When it was time, we walked through the hall way to the elevator. During this time, they put animation presentations on a wall. The presentations were about the Arab Emirate

After the hall way, we were in front of the elevator up to the top of the building.  The elevator can take up to 15 people. The elevator, with the speed 22 mph, is one of the top five fastest elevator of the world. (number one and two are in Taipei101 and Yokohama Landmark Tower http://www.businessinsider.com/the-8-fastest-elevators-in-the-world-2013-1?op=1) The highest level we can go is 124. It took us about a minute to go up to level 124, pretty fast!

Even though we plan to be up here at sun set time, unfortunately, there was very thick fog at that evening. We couldn't see much. Dubai is a new city. There were a lot of construction going on at the time. We didn't see much traffic even it was around 6 pm. Dubai City looks very organized from up here.

We spent about 45 minutes up there taking photos and enjoy the scenery. We came back to the ground. Next to the Dubai Mall is Souk AL Bahar. There are restaurants around the mall. We stopped at Zahr El Laymoun  Restaurant to have some grilled Kabab and minted lemonade.

After the meal, we were pretty much done for tonight. I missed the bed... we headed to the hotel... Goodnight Dubai :)

Duckling Rescue Mission!!

Today, people from the next office building contacted us. They said they could see a mommy duck and her babies stuck on a balcony of our building. Since the balcony is next to a storage room, nobody in our building could see the ducks from inside. The guys next door are on the forth floor so they could see the ducks trying to get out from the balcony. They said the duckling needed help!

The mommy duck laid eggs in a flowerpot on the balcony which is on the second floor. The little ducklings could not get out of the flowerpot after hatching. And their mommy couldn't do anything. We called The Washington Animal Rescue League (http://www.warl.org/) to ask for emergency service and they sent a rescuer to our building right away.

The rescuer arrived in about an hour. There were 5 ducklings and a dead egg in the flowerpot. The duckling were so scared and made very loud noise. The mommy duck was mad and tried to attack the rescuer so we had to keep her away from the rescuer. 

The rescuer carefully put the duckling in a white bag that he brought with him. He said he needed to go down stair as soon as possible and led the mommy duck to the river close by. 

It was not easy as I thought because the mommy duck didn't want to leave my office building. She was probably afraid that there were still some babies at the building. But the rescuer tried to show the mommy duck that there were some ducklings in the bag. So it took us a while to get to the Potomac river.

When he found a good spot, he let the duckling go. They ran to their mommy fast. mommy!! mommy!! mommy!!

They ran straight to the river. I was concerned if they know how to swim because they never do that before. Duck's instinct is amazing. They jumped to the water and swim next to their mommy without any problem. The rescuer said it was duck's instinct to feel safer in the water so they ran to the river immediately. 

The rescue mission was completed, the ducklings are with their mommy....Happy Ending :)

::: ถึงแล้ว ดูไบ โอเอซิสแห่งตะวันออกกลาง ::: เที่ยว Dubai และ Thailand ตอน 2

เรามาถึงสนามบิน Dubai International Airport (www.dubaiairport.com/) ประมาณ 9.10 น. สนามบินนี้ใหญ่มาก พวกเราจึงต้องใช้เวลาพอสมควรเพื่อเดินออกจากสนามบิน ก่อนที่จะเดินทาง แฟนย้ำแล้วย้ำอีกว่า ขณะที่อยู่ในดูไบ สิ่งที่ไม่ควรทำมี เช่น ห้ามจับมือ ห้ามใกล้ชิดกันมากเกินไป ห้ามถ่ายรูปคนอื่น และห้ามยิ้มเกินไป ห้ามยิ้มเนี่ย ค่อนข้างยากอยู่สำหรับเราโดยเฉพาะเมื่อตอนที่เราตื่นเต้นกับการท่องเที่ยวแบบนี้ แต่หลังจากการเดินทาง เราก็ไม่มีความรู้สึกว่า ผู้คนจะเข้มงวดกับนักท่องเที่ยวซักเท่าไหร่ 

เราแลกเงิน 100 เหรียญสหรัฐฯ ซึ่งขณะนั้นมีมูลค่าประมาณ 1 เหรียญสหรัฐฯ = 3.6 Dh. พวกเราจองห้องพักไว้ที่โรงแรม  Le Meridian Fairway อยู่ที่สถานนี GGICO ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากสถานีของสนามบินไปอีก 2 สถานี  (http://dubaimetro.eu/dubai-metro-map). รถไฟฟ้า Dubai Metro มีสองสาย คือ สายสีแดง และสายสีเขียว รถไฟหนึ่งขบวนจะมี 5 คัน คันแรกจะเป็นคันสำหรับผู้ที่ซื้อบัตรทอง สตรี และเด็ก (ที่จำแม่นเพราะเผลอขึ้นผิดมาแล้ว อิอิ) รถไฟฟ้านี้เชื่อมต่อ 7 โซนของเมือง รถไฟฟ้าดูใหม่และสะอาดมาก บัตรของรถไฟฟ้ามีชื่อว่า NOL card พวกเราซื้อบัตร 1 วัน ราคา 10 Dh หรือประมาณ 3 เหรียญสหรัฐฯ พวกเราวางแผนที่จะแวะไปหลายที่ ราคานี้ถือว่าไม่แพงทีเดียว

เรานั่งรถไฟฟ้าต่อไปอีก 2 สถานีจากสถานีหน้าสนามบินไปยังสถานีที่ชื่อว่า Ggico จากนั้นก็เดินต่อไปอีกนิดหน่อยก็ถึงโรงแรมที่จองเอาไว้ ตอนนั้นก็ประมาณ 9 - 10 โมงเช้า ถนนหนทางไร้ผู้คน เราได้แต่สงสัยกันว่าคนเมืองนี้ยังหลับกันอยู่บนเตียงหรือ

ในที่สุด เราก็ถึงโรงแรม เราเดินเข้าไปหิ้วกระเป๋าเดินทางหนักอื้งไว้บนบ่า พนักงานต้อนรับก็เข้ามาทักทาย แต่พอแฟนเราเดินมาพร้อมกับลากกระเป๋าเดินทางมาด้วย พนักงานต้อนรับกลับเขาไปทักทายและถามว่าให้ช่วยหิ้วกระเป๋าหรือไม่ โอเค...ประทับใจมาก หลังจากนั้น แฟนเราก็มาบอกว่า อาจจะเป็นเพราะการที่ผู้ชายเข้าหาผู้หญิงอาจจะดูไม่เหมาะสม เขาจึงไม่ได้พยายามเข้ามาข่วยเราถือกระเป๋า ตอนที่ไปถึงห้องนักยังไม่ว่าง ต้องรออีกประมาณ 20 นาที ห้องพักน่าพัก สะอาด และกว้าง แต่วิวข้างนอกมีแต่ตึกราม เหมือนกับอยู่ในกรุงเทพ ไม่มีอะไรน่าตื่นตานัก เนื่องจากเราเห็นว่าข้างนอกยังเงียบอยู่ จึงตัดสินใจนอนพักในโรงแรมก่อนที่จะออกตระเวนเมือง เราตื่นมาอีกทีก็บ่าย 1 - 2 โมง คิดว่าตอนนั้นเมืองคงจะตื่นแล้ว

แม้ว่าเราจะบินด้วยขั้น business class เราก็ยังรู้สึกว่าอยากจะนอนมากกว่านี้ สุดท้ายเราก็ได้ออกจากโรงแรมตอนบ่ายสองโมงกว่า สภาพอากาศไม่ร้อนไม่หนาว กำลังสบาย สถานีแรกที่เราแวะคือ Deira City Centre station แต่เมื่อเราออกมาจากสถานี เราก็พบห้างสรรพสินค้า (อารมณ์เหมือนมาบุญครอง) เราก็เดินเข้าแล้วก็เดินออกมาภายในเวลา 3 นาที เพราะห้างสรรพสินค้าคงไม่ใข่เป้าหมายของการเดินทางในครั้งนี้ 

สถานีต่อไปที่อยากจะไปคือคือ Dubai Marina metro station พวกเราตั้งใจที่จะไปดู Palm island เกาะที่สร้างขึ้นโดยมนุษย์ แต่ตอนนั้นเราไม่รู้ว่าสถานีที่จะไปนั้นไกลมาก ไปได้ครึ่งทางเราก็ยกเลิกแผนเพราะเราต้องรีบกลับไปที่ Burj Khalifa ตึกที่สูงที่สุดในโลก เพราะเราจองบัตรเข้าเยี่ยมขมไว้ตอน 6 โมงเย็น เดี๋ยวจะไม่ทัน

สถานีที่ต้องลงเพื่อไปดูตึกที่สูงที่สุดในโลกนี้ คือ Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station ซึ่งจากตัวสถานี เราต้องเดินผ่านทางเชื่อมไปยังตัวห้างสรรพสินค้า ใช้เวลาประมาณ 10 - 15 นาที ห้างที่ว่านี้คือ The Dubai Mall (http://www.thedubaimall.com/) เป็นห้างที่ใหญ่โตอลังการมากๆ เราพอมีเวลานิดหน่อย เลยเดินสำรวจรอบๆ ห้าง เรียกได้ว่าห้างนี้เป็นศูนย์รวมระดับโลกจริงๆ เพราะเราเห็นร้านค้าของสหรัฐฯ เกือบทุกร้านที่นี่ เช่น  Coach, Gucci, Guess, Godiva etc. และก็ยังมีร้านค้าอื่นๆ ที่เราไม่เคยรู้จักอีกเพียบ เรากับแฟนเป็นขวัญใจขนมหวานอย่างมาก เราเลยเข้าไปเยี่ยมชมร้านขนมหวานสองสามร้าน ร้านขนมหวานที่นี่ดูใหญ่และน่าดึงดูดใจมาก สันนิษฐานได้ว่าคนที่นี่เขาก็คงปลื้มของหวานไม่น้อยเช่นกัน  :P

เราเดินๆ ผ่าน Dubai Aquarium and Under Water Zoo ซึ่งเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์สัตว์น้ำที่มีตู้เป็นกระจกอะคริลิคที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก ดูจากข้างนอกใหญ่โตโอ่อ่ามาก เสียดายที่เราไม่มีเวลาแวะ เลยได้แต่กดชัตเตอร์จากข้างนอกเอา ว้า....
