Me in Medical Technician Uniform

Because of my computer skill, I have a chance to work in madical field as a part-time technician in a clinic. My responsiblities are primarily about data collecting and analysis. Another part of my job is to take care patients when they are with me. It is a new experience in my life because I am from mass communication and computer field.

I told my family and some of my friends that I like this job. Eventhough I can make some money from this part-time job during I am waiting for school admission process, my parents and my friends do not think my passion in this medical business is a good idea. Their first reason is that I am not going to grow in this business because I do not have any education background in the medical field, also my future plan is not related to the field. Second, working with ailing people is not pleasing compared with the job I worked before. I used to work in advertising business where I was surrounded with beautiful people, nice places, and entertaining matter. I understand their reasons but I do not totally agree with them. Maybe they do not understand the feeling of working and devoting for other people. Maybe they understand but they do not value that feeling as they do to other benefits. Of course, I want money and want to be rich. But the clinic job has open my eyes and let me see somethings else beside money, prestige, and job title.

I know that the treatment cost a lot, so I want to give my patients back by doing the best job for them. After my day, I want to have the best collected data for doctors and to see patients leaving with satisfaction. And I really do well. Most of my patients--for example, an picky old lady who complained everything since the ambiguous words in patient information package to the decoration of the place, a lady who scare everything even to sleep by herself, or an desperate old veteran who told me that he was paying back for what he did in World War-- were happy and enjoying having me around. For some reasons, I can cheer up patients who came in with upset, confusing, and desperation for the treatment. At the end of my day, many patients said to me, "You are very nice, thank you for taking care of me." That is a small success that I can make everyday. I know that they might forget about me at sooner or later. I do not mind that part. What I mind is that I was there when they needed someone and I did create a good moment in their life, even a short one.

That is my happiness. Absolutely, I still want to have more money, want to be a successful person in my career, and want to have a comfortable life. Nevertheless, the time I have been spending in the clinic is a great opportunity in my life, a moment that full fill my life.

Believe me... sometime positive doesn't attract negative

I think life works just like magnet in some ways.
Magnet has two pole north and south, or positive and negative.
Let's say positive and negative in this place.
For magnet positive attracts negative... negative attracts possitive.
And the same pole do expels each other.

Life works inversely.
Here is an example.

When I was young, I grew up in a troubled family.
Every day, I saw sarcasms, curses, and arguements.
As a child, I absorbed everything and grew anger and hate in my heart.
I created negative energy... sorrow, hate, jealousy...
My negative energy attract other negative energy.
I had bad frineds who like to make fun of me.
My teachers enjoyed seeing a stupid student like me down.
My relatives... my family always make me upset.
My heart almost explored because all negative feelings.

One day, I read a Buddhism book... it is about how to live happyly.
The book made me stop and think. I read more and more.
The book made me clam down and see the world in different way with understanding eyes.
Why my parents did that to me... Why other people acted like that to me.
Everything had reasons behind...
My family was under financial crisis. My parents were stress out.
They needed to release their feeling. And that they way they did.
Actualy, there are other different ways to do that but they did not know how.

I understand...
My negative energy gradually decreased...
My positive energy formed... I learned how to love... help... and have goodwill.
The more positive I am, the more positive things I attract to myself.
I just changed myself... the world around changed.
Hot temper in my family cooled down... Now I have a happy lovely family.
I can study better... and I have a lot of good friends, good people around.
Finally, I love this world and I feel like the world loves me.

I don't know where all negative things I saw before went.
Everyday, I am happy to see people smile. I don't mind helping someone without return.

Actually, I met someone who pointed negative energy to me. But someway somehow,
they were expeled from my life... Becuse positive energy doesn't attract negative one.
I always tell myself, no one can change me. My positive energy never be tainted.
I mean... I was angry and hated sometime. But when I realized that I stoped.
So... I never hurt anyone.

Just keep positive energy strong...
negative energy fade by itself.
Easy mechanics...

Purposes of Lie

Lie is not good.
I know, every body know.
I did lie a lot when I was young. When I grew up, I tried not to lie but still sometime. I didn't lie to take advantage from other people. I just wanted to avoid some difficult situations. Actually, I try to lie as much as I can. I want to be a good person. I want to live with the truth.

Recently, I did lie. I tried to sustain good relationship between other people by lying one of them. Then, the issue between those two people became my issue. The one I lied was mad and distrust me. Even the end of the story is that he forgave me for the reason I aimed to do. I have learned that no matter what purposes the lies are for, lie never bring me a good result.

I'm not saying, "I will never lie again" because this might become another lie. Just wait and see what my life experience have teach me and change me.

Kind of.... Communication Theories (Communication Accommodation Theory)

I live in the world of variety, especially cultural diversity. I’ve been in USA, called a “melting pot” and “multicultural salad”, for about 3 years, living in different states and working different types of career. What appeal to me the most are the opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds – different nationalities, social statuses, business fields, and so forth. I’ve learned new things from those people every day and every time, even when I was on a bus.

Culture differences include:
  • Nationality and ethnicity
  • Cultural and social background
  • Age and gender
  • Education and social status
  • Job or social role
  • Current geographical position (China, USA, etc.)
To understand and to create and sustain harmony in the divergent society, communication is a pivotal key. A way to understand those is to learn about theories like Intercultural Communication theories. T-H-E-O-R-I-E-S… sound fun…, right?

Here is a list and explanations of some Intercultural Communication theories, summarized from online sources.

The Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT)
CAT was developed by Howard Giles, a communication professor from University of California.

To avoid conflict and gain approval from another, one tends to shift his or her speaking to become more similar to another’s (convergence strategy). For example, one tries to speak formally when he or she has conversations with his or her friends in graduate school. In contrast, he or she speaks in lower level of language with his or her employees who are in lower social class to make them feel similarity, and give more cooperation.

On the other hand, one is likely to use divergence strategy to maintain his or her group identity or to index the different between them. For instance, one from a prestige family response with higher language level and more complicate context to another person from lower social level who tried to converge to him. It’s just like he is saying, “you are not belong to my group, don’t try”.

There are four components in CAT:
1)      Sociohistorical Context – Historical relations influent interaction between people. For example, people from Thailand and Lao are likely to converge their speaking to each other because the two countries have good relationship for long time.
2)     Accommodative Orientation – three factors under this component are (1) Intrapersonal factor (personal characteristics), (2) Intergroup factor (attitude and feeling toward the other group), and (3) Initial orientation (perceived potential and conflict).
3)     Immediate situation – such as (1) “sociopsychological states”, (2) “goals and addressee focus” (e.g. motivations and goals for the encounter), (3) “sociolinguistic strategies” (e.g. convergence or divergence), (4) “behavior and tactics” (e.g. topic, accent) and (5) “labeling and attributions”.

This Yoga Clip Treated My Choronic Back Pain

I had a chronic back pain last two years because long-hour working in front of computer and hard working for other labor jobs. I tried to exercise but it was not work. I lived with the pain for about a year. My back was hurt even I just sat and did nothing. One of my friend know how to do massage. I asked her to massage my back. First time, it was great. I felt really hurt on that day, but the pain was gone on the next day. I felt good for a week and the pain came back. I asked my friend to do the same thing again and again. This time, my back was still hurt and worse because I got some bruise from the massage.

I thought about going to a professional massage place, but I didn't have time to go out and I didn't want to spend $80-$100 for an hour massage. One idea came up, "let's try yoga", I told myself. I looked around on the Internet and I found yoga several interesting tutoring video clips on Youtube. The clip I share here is the one that release me from the back pain. It is a 45-minutes yoga section. I followed the clip 5 days a week. And my back pain was gone in my first week! I had been suffered by the back pain for a year and this yoga clip helped me. It's really work. The back pain never come back. Actually, I felt like it was coming back once because I had stop doing the yoga for months. So I start doing it, just 2-3 times a week. My back is good now. Not just my back, the clip also help my shoulder, arms, and legs.

Don't need to spend money, have a good exercise, and practice the peaceful mind, this clip give me all. :)

Little Boots... Meddle

She is just an amezing talent girl... good song... nice show!

Meddle lyrics
Songwriters: Hesketh, Victoria; Kurstin, Greg;
I remember all the things she did before
I remember all the times she cried
I remember all the things you promised her
I know it hurt, I remember all the times you lied

Don't meddle with her heart, meddle with her mind
Meddle with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

So don't go messing with her heart or messing with her mind
Or messing with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

She still remembers like it's yesterday
She still remembers you so well
She still remembers all the things you saw forever more
She still remembers but won't tell

'Cause she's a mixed up girl in a mixed up world
And you know she don't mean any harm
So please understand if you take her hand
You'll get much more than you bargained for

Don't meddle with her heart, meddle with her mind
Meddle with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

So don't go messing with her heart or messing with her mind
Or messing with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

Don't meddle with her heart, meddle with her mind
Meddle with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

So don't go messing with her heart or messing with her mind
Or messing with the things that are inside
You don't know what you'll find
You don't know what she hides

Smart Phone and Lovely service from Metro Bus

I’m the one who need to use Metro train and bus (DC) almost every day. Many times I need to unfamiliar places. I found that my iPhone and Metro online services are very helpful in many situations. I’m not scared to get lost because I can access internet and go to the Metro website to check bus routes and schedule.

One online service that really impresses me is “Metro Next Bus” which is a page on Metro official site. On the service page, you can type bus stop numbers which can be found on the bus stop sign to see when the next bus is coming. The system gets GPS data from the bus and tells you (almost) exactly waiting time for the bus. For example, I key the number of the bus stop close to my house, “5000863”, the system will tell you what bus is coming and go from where to where such as “3A from Annandale to West Falls Church”, as well as how long you have to wait for the bus like “5 minutes” “28 minutes”. The estimate time is 98% correct. I’ve been using metro bus service for 8 months and had only one time that I missed the bus because the bus arrive before the estimate waiting time. Sometime buses came a little bit later than the estimate time. But it was not a big deal.

I love this because I can manage my time. I don’t need to leave home earlier than I need to wait for the bus. I need to be at the bus stop about 5-3 minutes before the arrival time. Or if you are somewhere else and need to catch a bus, you can know if you have time to grasp something to eat or do something else before coming back to the bus stop to catch the bus. The service just makes my metro life much easier. 

Here is the link http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/nextbus/arrivals.cfm

Actually, I don’t know how to access the page from the main website because, mostly, I go to google and search for “metro next bus” to get the page.

Protect your credit card information before you need to fix problems

I got a forward mail from a friend today. It was about how to take care your important document in your wallet. They are all small things that I always ignore because I never thought it would come to me. But when I was a victim of fraud. I think it is very handful to know this basic practice to make your life easier and safer. Here are the things:

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards . Instead, put ' PHOTO ID REQUIRED .'

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the

'For' line. Instead, just put the last four numbers . The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine . Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6.. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all : (I never even thought to do this.)

7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number.. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit..
Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union : 1-800-680 7289 1-800-680 7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):

1-800-269-0271 1-800-269-0271
